Camp is so soon!

The following requests were sent out this morning from the childcare team coordinator, Stacy P.:

I wanted to send you some prayer requests that you can be praying for and sharing with the people that you should be asking to pray for you while you are at camp.

1. Pray for each of the childcare workers coming; that they would be growing in their faith and open to the ways God wants to grow them while they serve.

2. Pray for the teen moms and their babies. That God would prepare them to hear and respond to the love of Jesus as demonstrated on the cross.

3. Pray for the leaders and mentors who are coming to camp with the moms. That they would be protected and provided for.

4. Pray for the team running camp (called the A-team) that God would be preparing them to serve.

5. Pray for the weather to be cooler!

6. Pray for physical, spiritual and emotional protection!

7. Pray for all the details that come together and for flexibility when we need to flex and wisdom!

In less than two months, camp will be OVER. I can't believe it! Girls will have given their lives to Christ and lives will be changed. Be praying for:

1. ...the Lord to prepare the hearts of all those coming to camp; girls, leaders, volunteers.

2. ...provision of all we need; we're a little low on sign-ups for volunteers and pretty low on donations of items.

3. ...leaders to remain focused and stress-free as they plan their trips for their areas. I can tell you as a Young Life leader and staff wife that the couple of weeks before camp are ALWAYS wrought with stressful and unexpected situations as you gather kids, stuff, details, health forms, etc. To give an example, our Young Life trip leaves on Sunday, and as of Thursday last week, due to a series of unfortunate events, we had NO transportation! Yet the Lord provided abundantly and now not only we do have a lovely charter bus, we have it for a significantly lower price than our original bus. Moral of the story: Satan WILL attack before something so good, but the Lord will conquer! So, pray for the trip leaders pulling everything together to get teenagers and babies to camp. Pray a LOT.

4. ...the assignment team and committee team working diligently to plan all of the details of a great week.

5. ...work crew and summer staff kids preparing to serve at Lake Champion during the month of August. We certainly keep them BUSY and on their toes during YoungLives week! Pray for their hearts to be prepared to serve and love well.

Have a wonderful week!

It's already June!

Can you believe summer is already here? It feels like we were just waiting on God to provide for all of our needs for last year's camp, and He provided in abundance. Yet here we are, less than two months from another amazing week of teen moms and babies taking over Lake Champion. Here's what you can be praying over:

For more childcare workers to sign up
For YoungLives clubs inviting teen moms that the girls would want to come and that the area would find the resources necessary
For all the travel arrangements that need to be made
For supplies to be donated
For the assignment team to be filled with the Holy Spirit as they plan and prepare
For the camp property team as they welcome the first kids of summer

Now to Him who is able to do abundantly more than anything we could ask or imagine!

Pray for the babies

When we began planning this year, some of the babies that will be at camp this summer hadn't even been conceived. Yet God knew everything about each one who will be at camp this summer, His hand working mightily in lives of each baby and each young mother. Amazing!

This week, pray for the babies who will be coming to camp. One of the most amazing parts of ministry with teen moms is the way the ministry influences three generations; the teen, her child, and any adult in her life. We pray hard for the babies at camp. We sing over them. We play worship music for them. We read Bible stories to them. We try to love them like Jesus, knowing that His love for each and every one far exceeds anything we could fathom. We tell them about Jesus.

One year, we had a 5-year-old at camp. The cut-off age is 3, but through a series of special circumstances, this little one ended up at camp with us. I had the opportunity to talk to her time and again about Jesus, and near the end of the week, this little girl prayed to accept Jesus into her heart. She went around for entire next (and last) day of camp telling everyone in proximity, with a huge smile on her face, "I have Jesus in my heart!"

So, again I ask; pray for the babies. Pray for their health and safety. Pray they would raised in the love of Christ. Pray they would grow to know and accept His love for them.

In Christ,
Taylor

Get Ready!

Are you praying for an opening on your calendars for attending Young Lives Camp at Lake Champion? And checking it twice? Is it God's voice you hear? His invitation is for you to join 100+ caregivers to care for teen mom's babies? Camp this year is August 3-9, and we can't wait!

We have lots of teen girls and their leaders and babies signing up for camp! Young Lives is made for these girls. Isn't it awesome to think about all these teen moms and their babies being impacted for eternity? Be praying for them and their leaders, that the Holy Spirit gets them all ready to be at Lake Champion.

If you have not begun to pray already, here is an invitation as this week is shaping up in God's plan. Please pray daily for your decision to come volunteer at camp and for God to send many like you with a heart to serve and be glad Young Lives is available for these teen moms to come to know who their Savior is and walk on a journey with their babies. Lives are being changed one by one and WE can be planting seeds to build His kingdom!

Registration is waiting for your committment and I look look forward to seeing you again or meeting you for the first time!

Rejoice!

Pray for the Assignment Team!

The assignment team (the Young Life staff folks who plan most of the logistics, schedules, details, food, and entertainment for campers) will be gathering at Lake Champion for the next few days. Pray for the families they leave behind, safe travel, wisdom in planning (especially the YoungLives week schedule), and joy to be serving the Lord together. Jen will be flying in from California and Stacy will be at camp for the day on Wednesday.

Let's praise the Lord for the work He will accomplish through this team in the next days, making this summer the best week yet!!!

Blessings, Nancy (from the YoungLives committee)

Welcome!

Welcome to the YoungLives Lake Champion Prayer Blog!

You may be asking, what exactly is YoungLives? What is Lake Champion? Why do these things need prayer? And why blog about it?

YoungLives is an extension of the ministry of Young Life, a non-profit Christian organization dedicated to reaching teens for Christ. YoungLives is a ministry of Young Life especially for teen moms and their babies. Through traditional Young Life activities like club, camp and Campaigners, YoungLives mentors come alongside young women in a way we believe Jesus would do: with compassion, support and hope.

YoungLives teams up with mature Christian women to provide teen girls with timely encouragement, guidance and ongoing support. These caring women model Jesus Christ’s love by investing time and walking alongside them through their life situations.

Teen moms can attend a YoungLives camp with their children at one of Young Life’s camps. Set in beautiful surroundings and packed with adventure, young moms are given the opportunity to experience all the fun their peers do. From the pool and zip line to the ropes course and the pamper pole, there is no shortage of excitement. During camp, the young women get a break from their everyday schedules — thanks to childcare volunteers who look after their children. Teen moms get the chance to relax, play and learn about God and His plan for their lives.

This year, 200 teen moms and their babies will arrive at Young Life's Lake Champion in Glen Spey, New York, for the best week of their lives. Clearly, a week of summer camp for teens takes a lot planning and organization. Add babies to the mix and mayhem could ensue, if not for an incredible team of staff members and volunteers who spend months preparing for this week. Join us as we journey with the Lord to ensure that every detail is lovingly thought through and prepared for these wonderful young women and beautiful babies.
